Hi all,
We all know the "slash me." commands sent by users, right? The command is used to symbolize an action by said user.
it would appear as, for example
* AZN_guy runs
and now it should appear like
Link * AZN_guy
runs
what are your thoughts on how this new command format appears?
it just really doesn't give it the same actiony feeling like before.
That's what we get for having the * as a link. Maybe the whole QN should be a link instead. lol. Seriously I agree though, maybe it'll just take some getting used to.
what is the use in typing /me now? now you can type in something like, hugs the zone, and it will appear maybe like. link Somanea: hugs the zone, instead of Somanea hugs the zone. so therefore, since it looks like a regular qn without the action, we do not nneed the action command anymore. i do not like the new formatting but owh well i guess.
ray, do you want my honest opinion?. i think the new formatting sucks. sorry, but the point of typing the command is gone now

Please suggest a method that will retain the old behavior and also allow users to identify the start of an action quicknote.
instead of linking it like it is now you can do something like this,
/me jumps
now it looks like
link sweet sacrifice:
jumps
but maybe you could do
/me jumps
and it would look like
' sweet sacrifice jumps'
I hope that makes sense.
I need to make it so that you can tell that this is sweet sacrifice's action rather than someone pretending to be sweet sacrifice and just typing in the text.
well that's why I suggested the ' I don't have my jaws set to puncuation and it still says that. I hope that helps, even if a little.
actually, that makes sence.
the first comand result would be:

is there a way for it to say that on one line instead of what we see now as

so it would look like

or we could do this. make the username a different color in order to indicate an action qn. like for example. u could make the username of an action qn a high contrast color. while at the same time keeping the regular qns the same. i hope that makes sense.
I think that has already been done. just press the insurt key plus the number 5
honestly i like it the way it is now. lol and kudos to Chris N for not randomly screaming "can't anyone ever just be satisfied with anything?" lol that's probably what i'd be doing. but yeah the color's already done, i think the asterisks show up in green now and the links are blue. i think this is the best solution anyone could come up with and i like it.
while some people like it, others think that there is no use for the "/me" command anymore. since it looks like a regular quik note.
well all that typing /me does now is to make it quicker rather than writing out your username.
well some people like peanut butter and some don't. lol, i mean, nothing anyone does on here is going to make every single person happy. its not possible. oh and the /me command doesn't look just like a regular quicknote. it still has the asterisk just like it always did and there's no colon after the username like there is on a regular quicknote. the only real difference now is that the /me command links to the user profile and the asterisks are a different color. i know jaws reads it like a regular quicknote because i use it but as i said earlier, i think the way it is now is a good solution for making it easier to tell the real qn's for the fake ones. i think someone on here said earlier that there should be a way to make the whole action message a link, but i think that would get really annoying with screen readers and stuff.

Jaws doesn't say colors so . . . .
In its present implementation, slash me functions as follows:
* jmbauer
sends an action quick note.
Perhaps something like:
* jmbauer sends an action quick note.
With options to echo your own quick notes, this is the only way I can find that will both retain the action-like appearance of yore and keep slash me from being obsolete.

I like Jim's suggestion, it's in line with the one earlier about making the whole QN a link. As far as I can see that's the only way to get the best of both worlds - keep a link in the action and not have it go over multiple lines.

if they don't change it, you can change the way jaws reads the screen. I can't remember how but I did it once, don't you hate that? you know something can be done, but can't remember how it's done? anyways, that's a thought to.
We've now changed the way /me works.
